I've met with Privilege, Bicoastal, Origin, and The Brogan Agency. Looking for representation for me - 32 yr old beginning actor - and my two kids (age 2 and 3 1/2). We're looking for a good commercial agency. Privilege will sign me for theatrical and commercial, but the others will only sign me for commercial (my kids can be across the board). I'm non-union but fine with joining SAG once I have to and have money to join when that time comes (I read your other responses). Any advice on which agency you think is best?

Brogan sucks!

Bicoastal is a great commercial agency.

Privilege is good theatrical agency.

I'd take the offer of theatrical and commercial from Privilege. They are good for both. BiCoastal is a decent commercial agency and Origin is as well, but Brogan is useless crap.

Thumbs up on Privilege and Origin. I also hear Bicoastal is ok for commercials. I've never heard of Brogan.

thanks everyone for your feedback. I clicked the most with Greta Hanley from Bicoastal so I will go with them then for Commercial and then go to Privilege just for theatrical, if they'll let me do that since I won't be signing the kids with them or doing commercial with them. Hopefully that is not a problem. I wanted to make sure these agencies were all legit--thanks for your input!

The fact that you're a beginning actor would make it difficult for Privilege to sign you just theatrically. The reason some agencies like taking beginning actors across the board is because agents know that it's easier to get beginning actors commercial auditions and thus easier to make money off of them. Theatrically, it's difficult for an agent to pitch a beginning actor unless he or she has a damn good demo reel.

What about Innovative Artists for theatre? I know they're terrific for tv/film/commercials and vo. Does anyone know if they're good theatrical agents too?

Just so we're clear, Theatrical, especially on the west coast is film/tv. Some agencies do have an Equity division.

On the west coast, Innovative is not really known for Theatre (live stage).

I meant theatrical on the East coast - specifically Broadway and off-Broadway.

So then if that's the case, am I better off going to Privilege so that I can get theatrical representation for myself too? Privilege takes 20% for non-union, whereas Bicoastal takes 15%. It doesn't sound like Privilege is interested in representing me only for theatrical, as you said. Bicoastal seemed more interested in the kids so I thought that was a better place for them. As a beginner though, is having theatrical representation meaningless if I have no demo reel and no credits? Even if I have an agent willing to submit me, I'm not competitive, right?

Having no demoreel can make it difficult for an agent to pitch you theatrically. But on the same token, you'll at least have theatrical rep (Privilege is a winner there) and have a chance to audition for things that most people won't be able to.

20% for non-union is extremely common with most agencies. I think it's fair. The most I've seen non-union pay is $5000 with $300-500 as the average.
