Hello,

I recently met with a theatrical agent, and when I looked up their name on imdb pro, nothing came up.

Is that an immediate red flag, or do you think some agents like to stay under the radar?

The agency name is not an issue - they are definitely legit, just the fact that this agent's name and client roster are not listed.

What do you think?

Gotta say-if they're not on IMDBpro they're probably, "legit" or not, simply lousy. Surely one of their clients who has credits of any sort would have added the agency to the database, even if the agent him/her self didn't care enough to add themselves.

What is this agency? And how exactly do you know they are legit? If it's the fact that they're SAG franchised-that means not a thing, as other threads will indicate.

The important thing is that they have clients that are working. These working clients would want to have their representation contact info on IMDBpro. If no one does, and the agency is not listed, period-what does that tell you?

I've never heard of an agent who likes to stay under the radar.

You mean. the Agency itself do exist on imdb - but the agent and clients' name are not listed?

Unless this agent only represent Theatrical Actors - and doesn't book anything for TV/FILM... therefore, none of the clients have entires on imdb.

Have you checked Ross Report?

Thanks for all the replies.

I regret not researching this agent sooner on imdb pro, as I have agreed to work with them.

I am beating myself up right now, as I realize I made a mistake.

I made the decision to work with this person based on an amazing meeting. I was so excited about this agent's experience and stellar personality.

The reason I never doubted the agency itself was because I am repped by their commercial dept. as well.

Now I feel like I've put myself in a very awkward situation. If I leave, I possibly jeopardize my relations with the commercial agents. (it's a small agency)

I guess it is a blessing that noone from the agency ever offered me a contract to sign. I at least have the freedom to leave when I want.

I hope that others will learn from my lesson:

Don't get so charmed by an agent that you accept their offer immediately without shopping around first. We actors are so eager to be repped, that sometimes we lose our judgment and good sense.

Okay, one more time for the cheap seats in the back and for the 100000th time. IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE IT PROBABLY IS. Do you know I have been pursued by agents etc and turned them down? I would rather wait for someone worth half a damn then be yanked around by some bum who says he's an agent and wants 10 % for stuff I book myself. People- that is all these people are- people just like us. Not Gods, not legends, not all-powerful. You're never burning a bridge if there was no bridge there to begin with!! I have pissed of so many of these bums but funnilly enough, it has never mattered. Gee, I wonder why. It's because they are nobodies, that's why.

Well, you didn't sign anything. THAT makes it way easier to deal with. You can chalk it up to a learning experience. Anything the crappy agent swings your way is gravy.

No harm, no foul.

Hi wonderfulcow,

Just wanted to let you know... in LA, Theatrical refers to Film/TV, not necessarily stage.
