Jarret at the Daniel Hoff agency wants to sign me theatrically, but Cynthia Bain, my acting coach, suggests sending my headshot and resume out to the top kids agents in LA first. How long does it usually take those agents to respond? I can't keep the Daniel Hoff Agency waiting forever. Is Daniel Hoff good theatrically for teens?

Have whatever you are signing looked over prior to signing it. As long as you have a way to get out of the partnership if it isn't working, I don't see what the harm is in giving them a shot at repping you provideded the agency has a solid reputation.

If the contract is non-exclusive, you can work with more than 1 agent/manager

True in NY...Not so in CA. CA laws prohibit you from being represented by more than one agent per category in that market.

While a handful of managers will work on a freelance basis, most will only work on an exclusive basis because of the nature of what they do.

Not that I have heard of. I am sure the same applies as far as reasons they wont on the east coast.

Is it really against the law to be repped in CA by more than one agent? what do you mean by market? My male buddy has 3 agencies representing him. Is that illegal?
Thanks.

It's not "illegal" but it may violate the terms of the contract--he'd have to check. Unless one is for print, one for commercials, one for legit etc.

Can one have an agency in SD, one in LA and one in SF.. three different counties? My friend's daughter was just accepted to an agency in Santa Barbara and wants to be repped in SF too.

You can have as many agents as you want by CA law as long as they are all on non-exclusive contracts. Fact is though, if you are any good most agents will only go with an exclusive!
