i may be asking a really dumb question, but i just moved to nyc, i'm a dancer mostly, but i'm interested in all avenues in order to make some money and get exposure. i was interested in print work possibly....i'm 28, but look about 18. can i just send my headshot(s) to agencies letting them know i'm interested in print/commercial work, even tho i'm a dancer? will i just get tossed aside? or do i need some kind of referral or something? i know this won't be a "get rich quick" or even easy thing to do, i'm sure, just trying to broaden my horizons a bit. any agencies you guys recommend? i looked up a few, but the only option is to send an email or call, there is no submission option. just a little confused.....

If you have an agency that represents you as a dancer, ask them if they could possibly refer you to an agent they may work with. Also, you can always self submit to agents via the mail with a headshot, cover letter, and resume. It is a long shot, but you never know. Best of luck!

Hey bailadora, You should check out NYCastings and think about joing, maybe on a monthly basis at first. They have many postings for print and commercial work for dancers. There are also some agencies listed on their business directory who represent dancers. You may be able to get some work off of this. You should also decide if you want to market yourself as a dancer or not. What part of Ohio are you from? I grew up right outside of Akron. Hope this helps!

To really do print work you do need a print agent.
You'll need to do some research.
Use ROSS REPORTS and send your commercial headshot to every print agent. Find out who the print agents are and specifically send your headshot to them.
Also, there are some print agencies that are not listed in ROSS REPORTS. You'll have to do some research to find out about those.
Barbara Stein at Product Model Mgmt. represents actors for print. Funny Face is a print agency. Bella Agency is a print agency. CESD, Gilla Roos, Rick Miller Agency and Abrams have print departments. There are others.
