I am relatively new to LA, and recently did a mailing to commercial agents. Since then, I've booked a lead role in a student film, and have a callback for another lead role in another student film. I was going to follow up my submissions with postcards including this information. My question is, will commercial agents care that I've booked student films, or would they only be interested in commercial work? I wanted to let them know that I'm at least out there booking something. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Why the hell not? They know that your ultimate goal is to do more film/tv. Let them know that you're book-able.

This post and reply have intrigued me! Agents believe everyone's ultimate goal is film/TV? I must be a rare case, but as I pursue commercial work I really have no interest in film/TV! I wouldn't turn down an opportunity, but it's not something I am actively pursuing.

Am I alone?

All agents like to know that you make money as an actor.

Every actor has his/her own path and goals. The agents don't know your "ultimate goal" unless you've communicated it to them. Commercial agents make lots of money working with actors who just want to do commercials. (One of my friends has occasionally turned down TV/Film jobs because he's made so much more money doing one day on a commercial than working a week on a TV/Film project. He's got three kids in private school and the money is more important to him than whether it's a film/tv job.)

It's clearly English Actor's goal to do Film/TV. Why would he do films?

I apologize, I misunderstood. I read it as most agents believe it's all actors' goals to do film/TV.

That said, I took a commercial class with Stuart K Robinson where he advised us to have film, TV and/or theater credits on our resumes, even if we want only to do commercials. I found that interesting.

Of course. It'd be boring with just "List available upon request," Training, Special Skills/Abilities and your name, cell phone number, height, weight, hair color, eye color, and agency.
