* Earn as much $ as possible. You'll need it.
* I assume you're a 'dancer that sings'. Work with your voice person on a couple of 16 bar audition songs - ballad, uptempo, pop etc. I'm quite sure that voice lessons in SC are a lot cheaper than in NYC and you want to be prepared to audition as soon as an opportunity comes up.
* When you get to NYC, start second hand shopping for a good winter coat.
* Learn the audition rules for non-equity auditioners.
* Make sure you have housing before you arrive.
* Good luck.

great advice from tuff. especially that part about the winter coat.

also..

-immediately learn to use the subways.
-do not think Broadway is the only thing you'll be willing to do. broadway is a goal for everybody in this town, and there are people who have been working for years and years to get there. if you have no credits, you probably wont be considered unless you're phenomenally talented, especially if you're non-union and dont haeve an agent. look for off-off broadway, and indpendent theatre, and tour work as well.

take a look at the threads on "starting out" which will have tons and tons of info. there are soooo many things you should consider before moving here.

There's a lot of great advice in this thread. I just want to add one thing (and as a former singer, I mean no offense to singers out there):

Work on your acting skills above all. Next your dancing. And finally, your voice.

I am NOT saying that vocal training is not important (I still study voice weekly, and have done so for 30 years), but if you know how to ACT a song, you will be so much more interesting than someone with a glorious voice, who can't act.

Good luck!

And welcome to New York!

Ron
