If you are a member of LACasting, then that is possibly where they found your profile and the email came from. I also received one from them today, as have many others over the years who were members of LACasting. It is a personal choice of whom you go with, but be aware of their business practices. Mandatory photos from specific photographers, specific classes, etc. I'm not sure if things have improved, but you would think they have since there have been so many negative discussions over the years. Sorry I don't have any personal experience with them. Hopefully, someone who has will chime in.

They brought me in last week for commercial rep to interview with Catherine Spencer, who isn't even an agent, but is on the executive board (whatever that means). At any rate, there was many many actors there. She spent no more time than 3 minutes with each actor. It was all about pictures! In fact, you have to fill out an information sheet where one of the questions is "date of last shoot?". I have a feeling, they purposely bring in actors with the wrong kind of photos for what they are interested in repping you for, so that you MUST get new photos and they get a piece of that money. The reason I say this is because I specifically sent in a theatrical shot, yet I was called in for commercials only. Little did they know that I also have a great commercial shot. She asked me when they were taken, and I replied "a month ago". She said it was too small, and I'd need to find another. When I pulled out another tighter shot, she said she didn't like it. hmmmm? She then told me that I must contact them by email stating if I accept representation , or not. She said at that point I would be brought back to meet with another guy on the "executive board" who is VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE about photos! If all went well, then I would be signed. I strongly suspected that by "if all goes well", meant if I agreed to take photos.
So, that was the extent of the interview. She was nice enough, but the whole thing smelled like scam to me.
No thank you!

One other point: If you aren't taken by an agency, you should not assume it is because you aren't "good enough." Agents take or decline clients for all kinds of reasons and if you had 10 agents interview the same 10 people, you can bet they would have differing opinions on who was "the best," not to mention they would have to choose actors that fit their needs. (No agent needs 50 of the same type!) While most people can agree on the merits of very good actors, there will always be differing opinions on the practitioners and products of this or any art.

Hi everyone, I wrote an investigative article about ZPP back in Feb. 2006. Seems they were sending potential clients a -- not exactly illegal -- but very odd contract: Calif. Labor Dept., SAG Question Agency's Pact http://www.backstage.com/bso/search/article_display.jsp...ontent_id=1002075005If anyone would like to speak with me about recent experiences with Zanuck's new agency, just email or call me: lhorwitch@backstage.com, 323-525-2218. Maybe the contract mentioned in the article looks familar? Thanks, Lauren Lauren Horwitch News Editor Back Stage West

Since joining I have been out on quite a few auditions, some went really well, mostly national commercials. I did end up getting new photos because pretty much every agency will ask you for that unless you have a wide selection already. So I guess I was what they were looking for which is why my meetings lasted longer than a couple of minutes. It's definitely not a scam, previous to joining them I worked in the casting office for a major CBS show and we saw many of their clients. So really what it comes down to is they are selective of who they take, and if you didn't make it, it's because you aren't good enough.
See, it's this snarky, "Ha-Ha, I'm in and you're not" type attitude that shows your insecurity...secure people have no need to belittle others.

Ok I read through nearly this whole post. I have not "signed" with MZA, although they have sent me on ONE audition. Its been about 8 weeks since I did an audition. I did the headshots, I did the commerical class. I don't feel ripped off because I needed new headshots anyway, the guy (anthony Mongiello) was really nice and my age as well. I got all the photos on DVD so if I want to photoshop some myself I can. The Commercial Class (Daphne Kirby) was good because I am not used to auditioning at all. I could see if you had auditioned before some of the class might be common sense. In the beginning I met with Catherine, she was quick, then John Hammil, he was nice told me to get the 5 looks, etc. I came back with proofs which Michael himself approved 3 of. I replicated one headshot to leave behind at auditions. The day after my commercial class ended I had an audition.. since then, nothing. In LA casting, I am under their MZA heading for commercials. I hope thats not doing more harm than good. I have submitted myself to alot of commercials and so far their audition is the only one I have gotten. So I guess my experience with them is somewhere in the middle. Also even Daphne Kirby said that if your agent isn't getting you work, its all about finding the best fit for YOU.
