Hi,
Are any of the pictures in the post above good headshots?

Question - did a professional take these shots? I'm concerned that they're so over exposed. Then again, maybe they can fix that in the lab.

That said, yes - I like these pictures. You photograph very well and there's a lot of energy in your eyes.

My favorites are the ones in the pink dress. They're both good shots, especially the one that's a little tighter on your face.

The shots were taken by a professional, hopefully they can be fixed in a lab. Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question. I really appreciate your advice.

Dear Sarah,

I could only open one file, the first.

But if the rest of the files are similar to this one, I have all the information I need to know.

First -- you look great, a photographer's dream. Great face, great energy, great hair, great makeup. You'll be happy to know that you did a splendid job. That's my critique of your performance. However, there are many major problems with this photographer's technique, issues that unfortunately cannot be "fixed in a lab."

Anyone who charges you money can technically be considered a "professional." But to my way of thinking, there is much more to being a professional photographer than simply owning a camera and charging a fee. On photo number one, the highlights are so blown out that there simply isn't enough information there to fix -- it's overexposed at least two full stops, your skin tones have been totally obliterated by the harsh sun, and he couldn't deal with lens flare, exacerbating the lighting issues. And unless you're using these strictly for modeling, there's far too much body in this shot, with the background equipment a problem that you'll have to pay to digitally remove.

Once again, I could only see the first shot (in the yellow dress), but if it's any indication of the rest of the session, you'll eventually need to have your headshots re-done, next time hopefully with someone who understands proper lighting technique. These are essentially pretty snap shots that will no doubt be viewed by LA casting people as such.

Hi Robert Kim,
The other pictures are on another post on this forum. Right now they are a couple of posts below this one. I am sad to hear that the pictures can't be fixed in a lab, but I appreciate your advice and am glad to hear that I did a great job. Thanks!

Sarah,

I think Robert has given you some excellent feedback and advice.

Film school was a hundred years ago but he's absolutely right - if a shot is too over exposed, there's just not enough detail there to print.

The good news is that those others ones - in the flowered dress - are much better. I think you could definitely go with the closer one, especially if money is an issue and you can't afford to reshoot.

Either way, I wish you the best of luck!
