Hey all,

My son and I are looking for an affordable hotel in NYC for a few nights in August. Coming in for meetings/audition/shows. Priceline and hotwire are still way too high ($150+tax+fees+parking). Looked at sublet.com, but you have to pay to access that. Does anyone know where I may find reasonable housing in a safe area of NYC, for a few nights in August? If you know of discounts through theater groups or anything else, it would be much appreciated. Thx!

If $150 is too much for you then you will need to either stay in a hostel or stay in a hotel with shared bathrooms.

Otherwise, try Priceline and Hotwire for hotels in Jersey City, NJ.

Actually, www.sublet.com posts nice lofts or studios for $100/night, based on area of NYC...problem is, ya gotta pay $89 to become a member to contact the member who is renting the place...just thought I'd post to see if anyone knows if some of the studios have bulletin boards where other actors can advertise apt rentals...and if so, which studios have bulletin boards. I think Ripley Grier has one...no?

My staff happens to be researching this very question at the moment, so here are a few preliminary suggestions. After they finish doing the research I'll try to come back with more info...try the Red Roof Inn on W. 32nd St, the Chelsea Savoy, the Gershwin....there are others, too, and with private bath. If you're willing to share a bath, you can find quite a few between $60 and $125. If you're willing to stay in NJ or Long Island, you can possibly get a decent room for around $50/night.

Awesome, thanks. Tell the staff that you can also rent apts or lofts or even shar apts (your own room/shared bath) as low as $65/night, though most seem to be around $100/night. www.sublet.com. I know nothing of it, but when you come to NYC to audition throughout the year, you can't afford to stay unless you have other options. Thx!

We're still working on researching this. The main problem with August seems to be availability. Some of the cheaper places are totally booked up. In general I still recommend New Jersey or Long Island, or even Connecticut (a cheap train ride away) if you have the time to move back & forth. More info coming soon......
