From an agents perspective, is being blonde something that can take you out of the running. Meaning lots of agencies have there "blondes"

How's the market for red heads. Not sure I want to go there yet, but gosh it's tempting.

It doesn't seem to matter if I'm a lead in this play, or ensemble Improv Performance member, I am blonde. Grr.

Just some advice on the pulse of the blonde movement would be great! Theatrically and commercialy.

If you can play 18 to look younger, Backstage is looking for a blond, preferrably, in something you can self-submit to. I guess if you are a brunette, you think about being a blond, vice versa. You're an actress, try wearing a red wig for awhile see what happens.

I don't believe hair color decides who works more often.

It is dependent upon the project. Casting could change their minds, and after seeing 500 blondes, decide they want a brunette instead to match the brunette husband.

You could change your hair color every week and still not book much work.

You could also impress them so much with your acting ability, they ask you if you would consider changing your hair color.

As you know, so many factors go into casting, that trying to read casting directors and producers minds and trying to please everyone is simply mind taffy.

If you want to be a blonde, be a blonde. But with no expectations. Just my two cents.

I say be yourself and what makes you feel good. Because as soon as you go brunette then "they" will all be saying we are only looking for blondes. Whatever color gives you the most confidence and makes you feel sexy go with that and own it and then the work will follow if it's right.

As far as red hair goes, I think red heads are the most beautiful, when it's natural. It's the hardest color to pull of if you're skin tone isn't perfect. Be careful with red. If you do want to try it, I say go subtle like the girl from "Privleged", Johanna Garcia. Whoever made her a red head did it perfectly. I think they dye her eyebrows too but it's all very subtle.

good luck. But remember you will never please everyone and everyone will always have a different opinion.

Wow, I can't believe this is actually a serious topic of conversation. No, I take that back, I can believe it. I'm sorry to say... but this is a very blonde question!

(She was so blonde she put lipstick on her forehead because she wanted to make up her mind.)

But seriously folks... Lots of people are attracted to blondes. Some are not. Many blondes work, many do not. The color of your hair doesn't get you work. Your work gets you work. If they want you, but really want the character to have different color hair, they'll pay you to dye yours or wig you.

There's a gal from my hometown who moved to New York to be an actress. She changed her name. Twice! She dyed her hair several different colors. She got a nose job. She got breast implants. She changed her resume around at least every couple months. She switched agents numerous times. She kept trying to make herself into something that would get her work. I'm sorry, but she was not a good actress!!

Enhancing what you are to make yourself more marketable is one thing. Asking "how's the market for redheads?" is quite another thing. The market is looking for good actors. How 'bout try that? You want to make yourself into the actor that has the best market? Become a man. Or a child. Or an 18 year old who looks like they're 14.

In all fairness, the original question was posted by someone who asked for "an agents perspective" (even though she undoubtedly meant "agent's"). So hopefully, for her, an agent will respond to the question.

P.S., as for commercials, you could also do a little marketing research of your own. Watch television for a week and jot down on paper every time you see a blonde or a redhead that looks like you. See which ones you see working in commercials the most.

This is the most bizarre thread.

Hair color is probably the last thing I would take into consideration when signing a client. The only exception is if I happen to have three redheads who are the same age. In that case, I don't really need another one. But that same logic can be applied to any hair color, ethnicity, type, etc...

Thank you everyone for the feedback. I appologize if the question came off as ignorant or bizare.

Since I am blonde, and am in what seems to be a very, saturated type...(mid twenty blonde/blue eyes, caucasian) I was curious how it is elsewhere.

I am a firm believer that Talent always will prevail.

thank you nonstagemom and amo37, your words were the Truth.

It is just common for a lot of agencies to have there 3 blondes, and I had a moment of weakness wondering how much hair color mattered.
