Hello! I was wondering how the industry is viewing all the new work that is on web? and if anyone checks this stuff out? I am currently starring in an interactive webseries that is doing really well. It really showcases me and my work. Can I use this to market myself? Just Curious!

Thanks!

Hey, one of my favorite current shows is a web series called The Guild. I've seen a lot of great actors on it. I watch it every week like any other TV series.

If agents aren't paying attention to it yet... they should get started.
That's my opinion, atleast.

Felicia is the best. A lot of people are watching her show. And she's gotten a lot out of it.

I love web series and skits!!! I really think its the way of the future.

As for the industry accepting it...I'm not sure. t seems producers, directors, actors and creative people embrace it, and are always searching for a new angle on it. Agents and CDs seem a little slower, only really accepting it when its HUGE...i.e. litterally EVERYONE has seen it.

During the writers strike, professional writers and actors found a lot of creative ways to use NuMedia to keep busy and make some cool alternative stuff while their main stuff is off the air.

A favorite of mine is "Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog", created by Joss Wheadon and starring Neil patrick Harris and Nathan Fillion. Its a story in three parts, about how bad guys never win, no matter how hard they try.

Part 1:

Part 2:

The great thing about New Media is its not just for guys like Wheadon and Harris. Its a format you can really show your stuff with creating your own material. And you can do it cheap too...people tend to forgive low production value on the internet, maybe even crave it.

I would say it single best way to get your stuff out there. To the industry and to the public itself. Will it get you an agent or a foot in? who knows...but in this format you can truly make what you like and like what you make.

Go for it!!! Look what happened with the whole Lonelygirl15 Youtube project it became watched by millions around the world! The lead actresss found the gig on Craigslist and was the gig was initially unpaid, now she is repped by UTA and was on Greek.

I also think I read somewhere that CAA is getting into the online market by doing webseries. Maybe in Variety? Not sure

HarlemHippo, I just saw your post and had to say that I love "Dr. Horrible" too! Smiler

And that musical "Commentary" on the DVD is hilarious in its own right - I think actors especially can relate to it (i.e. the song where the actors with tiny one-line roles sing "It's All About Me", and the one complaining about there being no good roles for Asians, etc.)

(Sorry to be OT, just saw someone mention "Dr. Horrible" and thought "Oh, cool! Someone else who likes it!")
