We're new to this business, and I'm not sure about it all....please allow me to ask a question or two and hopefully, I'll get some responses. Thx.
So we met a little girl who has had success with JMM, landing commercials and voice overs routinely. From what I've read, however, it doesn't seem that easy. She must just have the look and voice. My 8 year old son, who's been dancing for 5 years (ballet, tap, jazz) and has been told he has a wonderful voice by his music teacher at school (and to take lessons), wants to start auditioning. JMM has these "interviews" once a month. We also have contacted a well known agent, who actually never got back to us, even with a celebrity reference. What can we expect by going to JMM on the very first time....what do we bring? My son, who was all ready to do this, is now getting cold feet. I certainly am not pushing him at all. I've told him he has to be prepared as there are tons of kids trying to do the same thing, and he seems ok with it. Thoughts? What about the JMM thing? Kindly respond, thanks!

Hi, Were new to all this as well. We started with JMM as well. We did the open call, there were about 10 kids. They all went in the room togther, did thier commercial and were out in less than 5 mins. I did bring 2 8x10 headshots with us as well. They said if they were intrested theyde call in 2 days. It took them a week but they did call and we went in for a 2nd time. They had sent my son a 4 page script to rehearse and we brought more pics. They saw him for about 2 mins with out me and then poked her head out and said well call you tommorow. They did call and they arent intrested but it was a great experience for my son to see what it is like to go through a call and to have to deal with rejection which is unfortunatly a big part of this biz. I hope every thing works out for you guys. Were in the middle of submitting ourselves. Good luck!!

Thanks showbizhopeful, i am totally confident that everything happens for a reason and we are hoping someone else will see his potential!! The way I look at it is if he didnt have something going for him, he wouldnt have gotten a 2nd call back. Therefore we are just going to keep trying and submitting and looking for any open calls etc. after his call back with JMM it definatly made hime want it more! Were keeping fingers crossed!!!

Wow....fanmom, does your son do summer theatre or dance/sing at all? I'm just curious..my son will be 9 soon and he loves dance. And were the 4 pages all his part? That seems a lot for a youngster, no? Of course my son is now saying he really wants to go to the audition and can memorize anything. He's back and forth. I guess one interview/audition won't be so bad...!

My son does not dance ( I've tried to talk him into it cuz all the kids on disney all sing, dance act, etc.) Hes been in school chorus for 3 years and school plays. he has taken an acting technique class at nypac by us, and only been in one school play. But his passion for acting has been apparent since he was 4 (hes an old soul in a young body) He begged us to take him to an agent when he was 4 and ended up being to shy so nothing came out of it, but he started hounding us again so here we are. the 1st open call your son will probably only have to do his commercail for them. The 4 page script was not all just his part to memorize there were other characters on it that the agent will act out, but on the 2nd call back after 2 lines of it he said they said "alrite thats enough" so they new rite away they werent intrested in him i guess. Rejection goes hand in hand in this business and at some point he would have to deal with it. It takes a special person to deal with it and still have the motivation to go on and he does, so I am proud of him for that. I wish your son good luck and remember everything happens for a reason. So if it does not work out, That doesnt mean it wont work out somewhere else!!! Good luck
