Actually a lot of models/ actors were first seen in places like malls. Interface isn't an agency so they wont directly get you work or antyhing like that, but they have a lot of connections with agents and managers so if youre looking to get your daughter into modeling, they can help you take the first steps. They have a lot of success stories so they're definitely not a scam.

It's pretty much a give that legit agents/managers/cds do not scout in malls. And remember, legit agents do not charge you for headshots or anything up front, esp not oh, say in the $1000 range. If you want to get your kids into the business, read the various threads here on how to do so.

Actually they're not an agency they market you to agents...but I know plenty of "legit agents" that require you to get comp cards and headshots and you SURE do have to pay for them. This day and age there really is no way of getting around that. If they weren't legit why would they have all those quotes from definitely legit agents- even Elite- that say how great they are?

If you're just getting started, you don't need a comp card. A kid getting started doesn't even need a headshot.

If you're with Elite or the like, they'll deduct expenses from what you earn, because when they take you on as a client, they believe you'll make money.

My friend went today with her daughter who is 5 years old but can pass for being 3 years old because she is so short... The told her that they would love to work with her but she needed to get photos of her, the cost was about $750.00 for the photo with hair and make up.. really how much should it cost to get a kids hair & make up done??? I don't know about you but this sounds like a scam to me!!!!! If I am wrong, that please let me know..... I am not going to take my daughter there

A child doesn't need makeup. They have the best skin ever.

A child's photo should cost however much it is to buy/borrow a camera and get a smiling shot printed. Worry about professional shots when she becomes a professional and the the work she's doing affords her a professional shot.

No one needs to spend $750 for headshots,e sp kids, whose look changes so frequently. Send her to the "Kids getting started" thread--that's all you need.

I don't work for them- my sister is a client.... if you know a better way to get agents interested then let me know! Because my mom paid for my sisters photoshoot-comp cards and they got her requested by a few agents, one of them even signed her to a contract and now shes modeling in print. I guess maybe some people get lucky and don't have to pay for pictures, all I know is no chances ever came my sister's way until they recruited her in a mall and they did exactly what they said they would do. So if you know the agents who will pay for your daughter's pics then go for that, but if you need someone to help, you'll probably have to pay...and at least Interface has a good track recrod

What type of modelling in print has she done? Almost every agent is open to new faces--esp for kids who change every year. No legit agency charges for pics--but as you said IF is NOT an agency--it's a headshot place. What types of jobs does your sister get sent out for again? What agency did IF get her seen by?

There is no way I'd spend $750 for headshots for my 5 year olds. My kids are 5 1/2 and work often...and they've never gotten headshots. We used snapshots until they built a portfolio and then made comp cards from their portfolio shots (for print work). Our reps currently use 4X6 prints from their portfolio for FF, commercial and TV auditions and submissions. BTW - they got into the biz using school photos. A friend took their school photos and submitted them to agents. Never went near a mall...never had a professional headshot. Other than school photos, their first professional photo was on the job. And it happens this way all of the time. No need to pay recruiters. Just send a snapshot to the reputable agencies we've discussed on this board...if they are interested, they'll call. Do not spend money upfront on headshots for a young child!
