I'm hoping to get my copmuter by x-mas, and I was wondering which printer is best (Cannon)?

I plan to use it for reg. printing and printing extra headshots, if I have to. And maybe make some extra money on ebay.

I'm thing about the cannon 830. I read in the consumer reports magazine that the 160 is a very good buy.

Can't go wrong with Canon. I love my MP500, just wish it had auto feeder. Haven't printed out headshots, as I make sure to refill before I run out, but the photo quality is definitely good.

Thanks. I just may have to get a new desk or a small table for my printer because my desk isn't big enough for both a computer/printer.

I love my HP All-in-One. Mine is \a 2410,but I'm sure they have newer versions now. I print my resume on the back of my headshots (fast draft so it doesn't smudge). I wouldn't print headshots, though. You really need professional repros to stand out in the stack. Unless, of course, you're a pro, then never mind. Smiler

the reason that I asked is because I read it on a local board, and I guess a lot of actors (union/non-union)say that they do it. And they only have to print what they want and don't have to waste the extras. Since I don't age very fast, and don't have to keep getting new headshots, it might be more cheaper for me to send them out to LA.

Definitely print out your resume (works great for the contrasting thumbnail photos!), but I wouldn't use it if you think you're going to print more than ten headshots EVER. The ink is not cheap- $12 to $15 per tank, and the Canon printer you're looking at has at least 5 individual color tanks. It won't print if you've run out of ink (even if you're only printing black text but you're out of magenta). You're better off having 50 headshots reproduced at a time. Or, if you don't want to have that many reproduced, check out Kinko's or a similar service where you can order singles.

Yeah, I totally agree. Print your resume as you need it, but have the pictures done by a pro. Reproductions.com and ABC Photo both do online orders and are well worth it.

wow, are you guys printing out your resume right on your pictures? I thought that casting directors didnt like this. I cant remember why, though. Id love to do this as it would save the cost of having 8x10 paper cut/stapling etc.

They probably meant having your resume reproduced on the back of your headshots, not updating and printing your resume on your own as you need them.

I have never had any negative feedback about printing my resume myself on the back of my pictures. It saves room in CDs' files and saves paper, which is good for our planet. Jujst use teh "fastdraft" settings, make sure that you allow a good hour for the ink to dry, and you're set!

I also never heard anything bad feedback about that, and I do it also.
