So I found out a few months ago that I was accepted to Washington State University as a Junior (I just got my AA from a community college, in which I had a fabulous theater experience overall), and I was ecstatic. I don't know how much any of you have been able to follow the news, or rather how widely the news would have even spread, but sadly, I found out about a month after I paid my deposit, the sorority application fee, and a few other non refundables that due to the economy, Washington State U-Pullman Wa, would be putting an end to their theater and dance program.
Needless to say, I was more then a little devastated. I needed to get out of my town, and it was too late in the year to apply somewhere else. Fortunately the classes for both theater and dance will still be offered for about 2 years (hopefully the time it will take for me to graduate), so I can still take them to avoid getting rusty.
I also plan on seeing if there are some student films being done, and the school has "Cable 8" which is an award winning student run network in which I can audition to be talent, or I can get behind the camera experience as well as lights sounds, and other stuff that will help me with the broadcasting degree, which was second to the BA in theater I really wanted.
Sorry about the long background story, but basically what I wanted to know, was what are some other ways you all suggest to keep up my acting training, with no actual program available. What are some books, blogs, etc to keep up my skills well I gain the awesome knowledge from a four year university! Any other advice you can give me, maybe like acting exercises as well? Thanks!

Hi Snuff
Along with any acting training, you are wise to consider working behind the camera. It really helps in film and tv, to be camera savvy.
For your list, here are two books that I think, together, give a balance between acting from the inside out, and from the outside in, a more technical approach.
Thanks! Actually I have the Michael Caine, I just have to locate it, cause I have not read it yet. I see the No acting please every time I hit up the bookstore, but I'm always unsure of it, so your recommendation really helps. I'll make sure to pick it up next time!

I can't imagion that every last vestige of theatre will be gone from Pullman, even though there is no program. Community theatre may still be around and a student group of some kind. But go with the communications degree and get experience behind the camera. If you are well rounded in the whole business it will open more opportunities in the field. I spent seven years as an undergraduate doing everything. And I mean everything in media. By the way. Pullman is an excellent teachers university. My mom graduated there many, many years ago..... Half my family is from Cashmere/Wenatchee area.
Awesome! Yeah I don't know about Pullman but there is a community theater in Moscow which is like, 5 minuets away. I will definitely attempt to do something there, the only issue I have is that I'm not sure I have time to participate in a whole production, but I might see if there are classes offered. I might try to audition for "Cable 8" because I do need to start getting some film experience in addition to/ in place of the theater, because I have done theater quite a long time, and it's not where my heart ultimately lies. Of course that being said, more theater experience is much better then nothing at all
