I've been listening to you two, since the beginning of summer this year, when I was first researching into acting. To me you're like out of reach superstars, and I was so glad to find this! Roz you're so funny!
Anyways have you heard of superb things from certain Acting schools, or colleges? Also is going to acting school (two years) consider less great than college? Which one will give me a better shot in acting, especially Hollywood. Have to start thinking about after high school.
Well, we go back and forth on this topic all the time, but I always say go to a real college first, then get your MFA if that's what you want. I think you should be a well-rounded, educated person FIRST and an actor second. You want to understand the world in which you live, right?
Listen to the Paul Russell interview. He gives some insight into what casting directors and directors look for in terms of an actor's education. And make sure that your program includes an industry showcase. At the end of the day, that's what you're paying for. A chance to get in front of all those industry peeps.
This question came up when I recently spoke on a panel at the American Academy of Dramatic Art.
I must say, I believe a basic college education is something every American should have if possible. Basic college is like H.S. nowadays.
There are so many wonderful acting schools out there. One of the ways I like to find the good ones is find out where the actors you love and respect trained as actors. After a while a trend starts to emerge. Check out those schools.
Oh and don't forget, for the really really lucky folks on the job training for an actor is the best! I learn something every time I work. Of course this is mostly very young actors who get this type of opportunity. But it is showbiz after all and it's one of the only industries around where you can work without training. That said, I think you will find most actors have trained.
That's my answer today. I am sure I will say something different tomorrow.
That make's sense, since usually where there's great actors coming out than usually it might mean the same path. Reason is I do not know if I truly want to go to college, because I heard that most colleges doesn't teach an actor to become an "actor" but rather an acting teacher. In Hollywood they say to forget all that they learn, and just start taking classes here. Oh, I never heard the America Academy of Dramatic Art, I'll look into that.
