Hey Guys,
I know some of you do temp work. Were do you find the jobs? Do you go through a temp agency? If so what are some of the better ones in NYC? If not, where do you find the job posts? I'm going broke(lessons..lessons..lessons!) I seriously need some form of an income at the moment and a temp. job would be PERFECT!!! If you could be so kind to share what you know that would be fantastic!
Thank you!
Grace

I would think going to a temp agency would be the best way to find temp work as they are the ones that usually get the calls to cover that sort of stuff.

Okay. I am new to NY as of just moved here end of Jan. but I am temping and LOVE it.

Look these guys up online:
Axionllc.com
peoplefindersplus.com
forrestsolutions.com
epicstaffing.com or rossstaffing.com
appleone.com

I found all these temp agencies by applying for jobs on craigslist.

All the best!

I see peoplefinders posting the same three ads all the time on craigslist -- are they not getting enough people? My advice to add to this post is: make sure your excel, powerpoint and word processing skills are up to date and at the expert level, otherwise, agencies are not interested in hiring you.

Ya know...Some temp companies do repost a lot of the same jobs as I have noticed as well (my guess is because they are trying to get a certain type of person), but they can find you work. To be honest...most offices really just do need someone there (answer phones, file, etc..)

So my advice (as a temp) is to do your best with what you know and just work! Don't worry about your skill level. It's just like an audition...go in being you and whatever you don't know how to do you will eventually be "directed" and you will learn.

All the best!!

It's very good advice. Except when it comes to peoplefinders, they actually insisted on wanting those skills and spell it out very clearly in their ads. These are for the jobs in the 18 to 22 dollar range.

From someone who has temped happily on and off for years, I found peoplefinders to be quite a puzzle.

Craigslist is an ok resource. They even have promo work that pays well. Just be careful for
scams and supsicious ads.

Does any recommend any agencys in particular? Or any to avoid completely?

When I used to temp a while back, some agencies would have work constantly --and others you'd never hear from.

Does anyone know an agency that staffs for banking?

Boy, I'm clueless when it comes to temp work, but there are LOTS of ads in backstage. I'd check there.
