I was writing on another board about filmmaking, when an anecdote from my past came up. I think it can be relavent here, in a forum about acting...and also where you can find some of your inspiration to plow through another day in the weirdest of places!!
Way back, or maybe ten years ago...i was still in film school at the time, I was in a 7-11. There were these skateboard hooligan kind of kids in there. Goofing off, looking at dirty magazines, wishing they were old enough to buy beer...that sort of thing. When I was in line buying my stuff...the kids walked out. When they passed me, one of them said under his breath, "Your movies suck!!!"
I imediatly jolted, and started laughing. I dashed out of the store, the main question on my mind..."How did you know I made movies? You've actually seen them???" The kids were gone. Lost to the wind.
I still think of that moment from time to time. As far as I can remember, I had only been in student films at that time...and somehow these kids saw them to know they sucked. And I was overjoyed. I hope they are still out there skating around convience stores, being my anti-fans.
In a weird way they inspired me. Some how they saw my extremely obscure little short films. They remembered them. The fact they thought they sucked is completly secondary...hey, at least I made an impression!
Oh, by the way...those movies did suck. My new ones are a little better
The other day, a guy recognized me and said, "Hey, aren't you..." and then proceeded to make the international sign for big boobs (juggling his open palms in front of his chest). He knows me as Emily Rackcheck in Wake Up World. I'm always surprised when someone recognizes me from that show without my boobs on.
I love when I'm recognized. or asked for an autograph... though it doesn't happen all that often. I've never had an anti-fan... I'm not sure what I'd think about that.
Are you sure they didn't mistake you for someone else? I have NEVER been recognized on the street for a student film (unless that street is a part of the school).

Oh yeah..they definatly saw it. Back in college, me and my friends had a public access show. We would take our student films and air them, rounding out the timeslot with skits and other nonsense. it was fun..and actually sort of caught on locally.
It aired all the time since very few people were making public access in the area. We basically took every availble slot...so it was on like 16 hours a day! We saturated the media!!!!
The type of humor our students films had, and even moreso our PA show, kind of instigated anti-fans as much as fans. But weirdly, now that i am in LA, I sometimes meet people from my area on sets and whatnot. i tell people I was one of the guys who made that show...and they either start laughing histerically, or look at me with alarm and shock.
Yes, I would rather have real fans (which I have a few), but anti-fans can be fun too...just as long as you don't build up an army of them a la Uwe Boll or someone like that!

Ha! Have I never showed you the contraption that makes up Emily's rack? It involves an amazing bra filled with gel that rivals the real implants, double-sided tape and makeup. Not for the faint of heart.
