I have to give his performance a C-. It was weird to see the film go outside the apartment and there were extra characters in the film that's not in the play. Sean was the weakest actor in the film and as I and many other have posted, RAPPERS aren't actors with the exception of Mos Def and Will Smith gets a grudging nod for his skills. I didn't say that about Will, Samuel L. Jackson did.
July 23, 2002 story on IMDB. He has worked with rappers since then, but I think he still has issues. They're simply not theatre trained actors like legit actors are.
I was so upset when he butchered that scene "Willie" scene. He was so unforgettable because Phylica Rashad TORE IT UP, along with McDonanld and the beautiful Lathan. I didn't see "Walter", I saw Diddy acting. I give him a lot of respect for taking the risk.
Its funny because I've been offered by a Off-Off b'way theatre company to direct the stage version. Not sure if I'm gonna do it because this is HEAVY.
I also never forgot that it was Diddy the Rapper, trying to be an actor. It's a sad truth of the marketplace, the play or the movie would not have been made without him.
