Writers’ workshops through production.
How many of you have been involved with a production from the writers’ workshop through putting on the finished piece? My son just finished a reading for a part in a new play presented at a workshop. We participate in several (3) writers’ co-ops and have followed the development of plays from concept to final production. This gives the actor insight into what the writer has in mind for the character plus the ability to help develop the character. David has had a number of plays written for him because of his participation with these groups.

The part David is reading requires him to learn new skills like riding a unicycle and juggling. I could start another thread on new skills learned for a part….

Anyhow, this is a great opportunity for a teenager to see the whole process from start to finish and get involved. As an added bonus, if I can get him interested in writing, he has the forum to have his works read and critiqued in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. Heck, I even get involved in reading parts.

Is this common for any of you?
