Hello everyone!
If anyone is in the NE area, we hold a monthly acting group (we do not consider this a class). Below is the link to our website, and the breakdown:
http://acting.meetup.com/365/The Rhode Island Film Acting Meetup Group is a collective of film actors from the NE area who meet once a month for a number of reasons:
First and foremost this is a great way to network with other actors, and to share resources and advice with one another. It also gives the actor an opportunity to develop their craft--not only do we develop our improv skills with exercises, but we also work on scripts either selected by one of the organizers, or written by local talent to be workshopped.
Although we cater to the 'film' side of acting and production, we encourage all types of performers to attend.
And to be absolutely clear--this is a safe environment. We do not intend to 'teach' anyone how to act, and in no way consider this a 'class.' We leave critical observation up to your acting teacher. There may be constructive critiques, depending on the project or exercise, but we want to stay away from any form of formal critiquing.
* No one is forced to actively participate.
* You should come prepared to move.
(To give an example of the exciting stuff we are doing, here is what will happen in our next planned meeting in March: This is going to be a very special meetup. We have special guest director Richard Griffin of Scorpio Film Releasing joining us in March. Richard has directed 10 features in the past five years, all of which have seen distribution. He has also worked in television for 15 years prior to starting SFR. Some of his recent titles include: Pretty Dead Things, Splatter Disco, Beyond the Dunwich Horror, and Nun Of That.
During the meeting Richard will be filming small scenes between teams of two, taking them home to edit, and then bringing the finished pieces to the following meeting for viewing. This is a very cool thing for Richard to do, so don't miss out on your chance to be shot and edited by what critics are calling 'the new face of independent film.'
We are skipping the month of February, as we work on writing short scenes for this workshop. If you have a serious interest in showing up in March, please email me, and we will assign you a scene. We would like you to be off-book in March for the filming--however, because these scenes will be around one page (one minute), we will give each team 20 minutes or so to go over the scenes with their partner before filming.
This is a great opportunity for actors to work with a veteran director, and giving them a chance to get comfortable with the camera, and to witness themselves and others in an edited scene (which may also be used in a reel if you see fit).
Thanks all.
