I see tons of music videos with dancers in them and I thought to myself,is there a real career in dancing in music videos? I find them to be quite annoying.

Also, I look at Hollywood and all I see are famous actors, but no elite actor/dancer who are respected in both fields that's Tom Cruise or Reese Witherspoon big. The name of J-Lo comes to mind,but I don't count her because she's so-so in both. Name me a BIG TIME dancer/actor in Hollywood. Hmmmmm.......

I'm not a dancer either. I the "real career" question is kinda relative. It's difficult to tell because I don't think the music video world is as organized as the world of a SAG actor. With that said I'd bet their are some making a living at it and they may eventually become choreographers.

This is timely for me because I just booked a couple of commercials and I'll be dancing in at least one of them. I rarely watch music videos, but when I do I'm usually in awe of the talent I see.

As far as who at the upper echelons of the industry also dances? I don't know, but I also wouldn't take it for granted that their aren't any. Those people are usually talented in more than one area. Maybe not "elite", but that could be because it just isn't a tool that's often needed for them...and if they do the studios provides dance camp and they usually pull it off.

Is it fair to count out Jennifer Lopez? After all, she does both, successfully at a very high, professional level.

A career in music videos...uh, not really. They usually pay really badly (like $100/day) and are non-union. If you google "video ho" (sorry, really), you'll probably find an article about how poorly paid video dancers are.
