Hello. A question about unions:

I've done some previous work on a Late Night television show and due to this AFTRA would like me to be a member (although, I was not notified personally by AFTRA, I just heard that I was eligible via the casting director). I have not joined yet. However, this past week I got a callback for a commercial. Will this must join status with AFTRA affect me in anyway with respect to the commercial (I was asked on a form whether I was an AFTRA and/or SAG member and I said "no" to both, just so you know)? Is this something I should tell the agent who sent me out immediately?

The only way the commercial is affected by your "must join" status for AFTRA is if it's an AFTRA spot - which I doubt. It may be SAG (but I doubt that too). It's probably non-union and you're good to go!

I'm pretty sure it's a SAG spot. Does my AFTRA status still have no affect?

Yeah, AFTRA and SAG are not related in terms of "must-join_ish stuff.

I was an AFTRA Must Join for 6 years and never knew it.
