Sure, since I startd that list...
I have studied at:
HB Studio - This school is great for beginners as well as seasoned actors who just want more training with scene studies (and other crafts.. movements, dance, stage combat etc.) I actually had the chance to stop by their office over weekend and picked up a schedule. The Fall Semester already started (9/9 - 12/19). For *some* classes, you can still register and participate half-way through. This Fall, they have really good acting instructors. My personal suggestion for instructors are: Jim Boerlin, Sam Groom, Jeanne Kaplan, and Austin Pendleton.
I would say that every actors *clicks* differently with the instructor... So, if any of the classes that allows you to "audit" - then you should audit a class before signing up for the class. I had great experience with one of the instructor, while my friend totally felt the class wasn't 'fast enough.'
One 'negative' part about HB studio, is that you get a wide range of students. Sometimes, it can be hard if you are in a scene study class. I remember years ago, in my scene study class, none of the (international) students would volunteer to be my scene partner... So I ended up doing 3 monologues in the 12 week class. (It just happened for that particular class, 95% of the students are exchanged students, who were more interested in observing than participating)
If you are interested in HB studio, check out their
website and do a little research on WHO is teaching the class. There are other posts on this board where people have comments on their experience.
It's the most afforatble Acting School in Manhattan. (It's about $15 - $20 per class)
Now,
Sande Shurin Studio. I took her technique class early this year. (Taught by both Bruce Levy and Sande Shurin)
If you are new to to acting, you will probably pick up Sande's method quicker, than those who trained in other techniques (Method, Stella Adler, Meisner, Uta Hagen, and Pratical Aesthetics etc). You really have to leave everything behind and go to the class with a clean mind in order to get into it. It took me several classes before I could tap into Sande's technique. Due to financial problems (yeah, now I'm investing in ACCENT REDUCTION classes) - I couldn't continue training with Sande in her Ongoing monthly classes (approx $65 per class). But just on based on what I absorbed in her technique class, I felt 'real' and comfortable in my own skin whenever I do my monologue.
The 'negative' part of her studio is, I felt there were so much more that can be taught in her class, but she saves them for her other courses. (just a personal opinion...)_______________________________________
By the way, I love "Everything Acting Podcast" - thank you girls for giving us so much inside/industry school.
