I just went to combined auditions with numerous theaters and a few took interest in my headshot and resume. The companies said to follow up with a thank you letter. I'm not very familiar with what to include in the body, so I was hoping someone could critique this for me a bit. Honesty would be greatly appreciated, even if it's harsh!
Dear Mr. Jones,
Thank you for taking interest in me at the *****.
I will be moving to New York City later this month to continually pursue my acting career and education, and after living in ***** all my life, this will finally put me closer to the tri- state area. I recently performed in the Off- Off Broadway play, ***** ****, in New York City and thoroughly enjoyed it. Keep me in mind for future projects that your company takes on, for I would be more than interested to be involved.
I look forward to auditioning for you again.
Sincerely,
***

how is that coming off as a desperate actor? if im desperate for anything its certainly not a part in a play... i want to get a lot of opinions! this is very important to me. I thought this message board was supposed to be friendly and supportive
"if you keep kicking dust, eventually someone will cough"
i actually got that quote from here. sorry if i offended you by desperately needing an answer.

CaliforniaP,your response was very arrogant and unhelpful to Letsgo2690. I think that Letsgo2690 has the start of something good, but the way you are wording it doesnt stress that they need you as much as you need them. I would think of a a followup letter as being enticing, Give them a reason as to what they are missing out on by not having you. Obviously, you are seroious about acting otherwise you would not have even auditioned. I would say something to the effective of that you are enhancing your skills and that you would be interestested to discuss future works with them where your talent could best be used.Let them know specifically how your training or background fits into with what they want. I hope some of that helps.

First of all, I used to work in a casting office and I coach actors on this kind of stuff all the time, so I think my opinion is an educated one.
You do not sound like a desperate actor. Period.
IN terms of the above text, I would drop the "I thoroughly enjoyed it," part. They don't care if you enjoyed yourself (sadly). They care that your audience enjoyed you. And that you booked!! Mostly that you booked! So, just tell them that you did the show.
Also, I would change the last line to read, "Currently, I'm ...(whatever it is you're doing; taking classes, whatever)...and am available for auditions immediately. Looking forward to seeing you again very soon.
IN general, this is a great letter. Short, to the point and relevant.
I would change the thank you for "taking interest" line. Taking interest sounds weak to me.
Otherwise I agree with the big D.
You are not desperate, you have been working! That's great. More than a lot of actors can say right now...or maybe I am just referring to MOI!
Oh but I did get a couple days on an indie film in LA! It shoots the first week in September. Oddly enough the first time director saw my reel on my website after a former client of mine mentioned me. You never know how exactly you will come to a director's attention. This client is an actress. One more reason we should be kind to each other here and everywhere.
