What is the proper and basic equipment for a decent footage? What programs for editing, and special effects?

Speaking in terms post-production, final cut STUDIO is amazing. There is always final Cut Pro, but FCP does not have nearly as much as Studio does. Beyond the editing, it also includes Live type, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, Cinema Tools, Color, Compressor, and a few other that I cannot remember off the top of my head. I have the studio not FCP, so I don't know how many, if any, of those extras it has.

It is a pretty penny though, so I would recommend trying to get a grant from your high school (?) to pay for it, or finding a tech lab that has it and upload your footage from there.

Goodluck!

LOL, now it's my turn. Any decent 3ccd camera will work for you. It doesn't necessarily need to be an HD camera, but it's nice to have that option. Personally, I love my HVX200 and I just finished shooting a pilot for the Gaboff Brothers (Hollywood Stunt Dummies) and they loved the footage and color from my camera.

Ramblewoods is right about FCS. That is my editing platform and it is very powerful.

Also, don't skimp on your tripod. Get a good one that will support your camera and be steady

But I would tell you, start learning your framing. There are certain ways and conventions of doing a shot. How would you frame a 2-shot, a Close, a wide. There is more to than just having a camera, the way you use it is much more important. I could use a small handy cam and still get decent results, but I like my own equipment.

Didn't know I was a cam op too, huh? If you want to see my camera and my set up, go to

Then there are those of us in the PC camp that swear by Adobe Premier and After Effects for home use. We are Avid at work. I made the plunge today and bought a Sony EX-1. This is for my personal shooting. When I DP a project on the outside we go with whatever the budget allows....
Good to see ya Doc. I watch DVXuser too.

Thank so much! I have a cheap dinky camera, I wouldn't even say it is in that league, since the graphics in it are so poor in comparison to that. They look so crystal clear, beautiful images.

I look up the 3ccd, and there a lot of varieties, I guess I'll do some research. I am not going to skimp on this purchase though, lol, I have some major plans.

Wow, you're really talented in a lot of things, that's really great!

Another tip that can be VERY beneficial. REad up on media aesthetics! I took a class on the subject for my film studies minor, and I never looked at another movie the same. Great stuff, especially for conveying certain things for your movie!

LOL! I talk about what I know and use. I have no experience in Avid, but hear it's really good too.

See you over on the dark side, literally.

Was perusing and just came across this. Thought it could be very useful. Covers lots of different filmmaking inquiries that you may have now or sometime down the line:
