Hi,
I'm looking for a speech teacher who is experienced in working with foreigners. I'm looking to learn a Standard American dialect.
Any recommendations and your own experience in either searching for a teacher or working on your American accent is much appreciated.
Thank you

Watch American movies, imitate them, speak in the accent every chance you get.

Rinse and repeat.

"A woman, standing nude, looks in the bedroom mirror and says to her husband, "I feel horrible, I look fat and ugly. Pay me a compliment.? Her husband replied, "Your eyesight's damn near perfect." He never heard the shot."

Hi Fly,

You can find several teachers in your area at www.vasta.org, the website for the Voice & Speech Trainers Association. I'm a voice and speech trainer and also have a lot of FAQ on my website, www.amandaquaid.com, advice about finding the right coach.

I also wanted to ask if maybe there is a good book with great tips and advices on how to reduce accent? I have found some of them on Amazon, but it would be better do get responses from actors. Thank-you in advace.

It's not so much that you want to "eliminate" your accent. You just want to have an American dialect available for when you need Smiler You never know when your natural accent might help you land a role!

Your biggest help (in my opinion) will be like miss stone said; just watch Americans act, listen to Americans talk... try to surround yourself with it and imitate it as often as possible.
