Aww love you too Morgin!!!!

I'm big into voiceovers, and I'm trying to break into the voiceover industry myself, so I thought a good list of NY VO classes would be helpful to everyone!

I've taken Paul's Character and Animation class, and I loved it. There were only about 7 people, and you get a workbook that Paul put together for the class.

Here are the VO classes offered by Weist-Barron:

VOICE-OVER I - Six Classes w/ Batt Johnson or Glen Holtzer

VO II “Doing the Demo” - Three Classes w/ Michael Ingram

Me, too! Oh, I'll add another.

For young adults (Well, older, too), I've heard Roger's class at the "Performing Option" was really good. You get a demo at the end.

Thanks for all the great listings! Are they just for adults, or can teens use them too...I haven't perused them yet.

For teens, its probably best to start out in the group classes, such as at Actors Connection, Weist-Barron, or the Network, and move on to private coaching after that. Actually, its really best for anyone to start out that way.

Hey SparklingAriel: Due to scheduling conflicts my 12 year old d cannot get into her acting class. She recently got into cross country running, which I think is awesome for her, but the meets are held during her musical theater time. She's really conflicted, but I know a really good voice over coach that has group classes, which she can attend. Do you think I should make her take a break from all the singing and dancing and try out this lady's class? My d participated in an actor's boot camp this summer and this vo coach taught a portion and my d just loved her. Thanks

First you have to ask her if she thinks she will enjoy voice-over and if its something she really wants to pursue as a part of an acting career.

Will she like being off-screen/off-stage and behind the mic? Can she see herself lending just her voice to radio/TV commercials and animated shows?

Once she decides that this is something she wants to pursue, its up to her whether or not she wants to take a break from musical theatre and fill in the time with voice acting.

That's pretty much how I started out. I love musical theatre, and I developed an interest in voice acting. I think a lot of musical theatre actors develop an interest in voice acting because voice acting requires you to be a really strong ACTOR in the first place, which theatre usually makes of you.

Again, she has to look at her career as a whole. Does she want to focus solely on musical theatre in the long run, or does she want to try other things (tv/film, commercials, voice acting, etc.)? If she wants to expand her career and create more opportunities for work, then I say go for it!

She can always decide later on if she wants to stick to musical theatre. That's the cool thing about acting, there are so many possibilities.
