Comfort food or as I call them F.O.T.G.'s (Food Of The Gods):

Philadelphia Cheeseteak: I can never understand how something so simple and so goddamn delicious as a cheesesteak has never really caught on in the five boroughs. When I had the hankerin' for a cheesesteak, I hopped on the N.J. Transit/SEPTA to South Philadelphia and brought back SIX Cheesteaks, Baby!! Three from Pat's and Three from Geno's. Pure, Pure Heaven, folks. As close to me having an orgasm without a girl or my hand! Big Grin

Greek Gyro/Falafel/Soulvaki Sandwich: Probably New York's answer to the Philly Cheesesteaks and just as good. Razzer

Pastrami or Corned Beef Sandwiches: Add kosher dill pickles, hot, sweet and sour peppers, 'nuff said!! Big Grin Wink

Pizza: Extra cheese, mushroons, pepperoni, sausage with fresh garlic. YUM-YUM!!

Bagel, Cream Cheese and Lox (NOT LOX SPREAD, LOX, BABY!!): Jewish Soul Food at it's best! Lechaim!! Big Grin

BBQ Ribs (Or BBQ In General): Simply Te Best!

Sushi: When properly prepared, you just can't beat a good piece of bait! Big Grin

Steak: Porterhouse, T-Bone, N.Y. Strip, Sirloin, Rib-Eye, need I say more? Big Grin Wink Cool

Most Seafood: And by "most" I mean, salmon, bass, snapper (red, blue and yellow-tail), sole, shrimp, lobster, clams, oysters, scallops, conch and crab are some of many on my list. Cool Sorry: No Octopus Please. Frowner

Good Beer: Is always a comfort for me. Smiler

Good Friends: Comfort Food For My State of Being

Good Women (or a Good Woman): Always good comfort food for the ego, body and soul . . . Razzer Cool Big Grin Cool

And last but certainly not least . . .

A Vodka Martini: Prepared with SMIRNOFF Blue Label Vodka, shaken and not stirred. Three Olives please.

Now if you want desserts, well that's for another listing.
Razzer Cool

Ask and ye shall receive . . . an answer!

POKE AND POUR CAKE (Printed from COOKS.COM)

1 white cake mix
1 can cherry pie filling
1 lg. box cherry Jello
1 lg. box Dream Whip
Make cake - let it cool. Make the Jello - using ONLY the HOT water. Take a fork and poke holes all over top of the cake. Pour the Jello over the cake. Put in the refrigerator for 1 hour. Make whip topping, spread over cake. Top with cherry pie filling. Let stand in refrigerator for 1 hour and serve.

Mmmmm, Yummy Indeed!! Big Grin Cool

I had a great vacation in March of 1998. The island of Mustique. Still remember every moment.

They had one dessert there that was made to look like a volcano. When you put the fork to it, the chocolate "lava" oozed out all over the plate.

It was so good and funny. I was an adult playing with my food, LOL.

Not sure it can compare to a POKE AND POUR, AHAHAHHAHHAHAH.

Yeah, tell me about it. Sounds like something you do to a woman at a construction site Eeker Eeker. . .

. . . or a chocolate factory, better still.

Hi Peter,

I am impressed that you can remember desserts that you are NINE YEARS AGO. Wasit just that good or are you like Bullwinkle who can remember everything he ever ate?

Here is my top 5 comfort foods:

1) Sandwiches made by someone else (they just taste better)

2) Cinnamon red hots. I really like them on frosted sugar X-mas cookies.

3) Those orange styrofoam-like circus peanuts. I love them when they are really, really stale.

4) Take-and-bake pizza

5) Dreamcicles (Have you seen Stephan Colbert's "I have a dream cycle?" It is SO funny.)

This looks like a fun thread and a fun message board in general. I am glad I found it.

Solo, Solo, Solo!!! GENO'S???? PAT'S??? Those are the bridge and tunnel tourist cheesesteaks!

Get thee to Tony Luke's on Oregon Avenue right next to the 95 overpass and get yourself a real cheesesteak that will make you almost forget sex. Almost. No CheeseWhiz sh** there!! Real cheese and delicious fried onions.....on an awesome crusty roll....now that's South Philly at its best!

And I don't even eat them anymore (a veggie now) - I just breathe the scent when I go there with my parents.....yum....

. . . and I am in agreement with you, Zippy! Both are tourist spots, for historical purposes, I feel you have to start at the beginning and then work your way up!

And I had Tony Luke's . . . OUT-STANDING!! Now we're talking 5-star cheesesteak. I had one with sharp provolone. Great cut of beef (what is that: Prime rib?!) Fantastic!

And props be given to Jim's on South Street. I like the diner motiff and makes a nice cheesesteak!

There was also a place that made a killer chicken cheesesteak on South Street, but I couldn't remember the name: It was almost across the street from Jim's . . . OH YEAH!! Ishkabibble's: That was the name!! Had a reputation as having the best chicken cheesesteak in Philly!! Awesome sandwich!! Big Grin

Between the two (Pat's & Geno's): Genos has the better meat, but Pat's has the better overall sandwich. Plus, I don't like the racial overtones over at Geno's (especially their views concerning the Mumia Abu-Jamal - Daniel Faulkner affair). I never appreciate that about Geno's which was one of the reasons why I rarely went there. And their pro-U.S./ anti-immigrant views doesn't sit well with me either. Frowner In 2006 Geno's got pinched for discrimination in public accomodations. Not Cool! Mad So you'll forgive me if I'm partial to Pat's. Cool

The great thing about a cheesesteak is that it helps to sober you up when you've had too much to drink! The cheese, bread, tomatoes onions all do a great job of absorbing the alcohol in your system! Big Grin

And you have to have the option of Wiz on your steak, Zippy!! And I know Tony Luke's has a few sandwiches for vegetarians that are pretty good.

God, I Love Cheesesteaks! FOOD OF THE GODS, BABY!! OH, YEAH!! Big Grin
