What about Dermot Mulroney feeding ravioli to Bridget Fonda in "Point of No Return"?
And I TOTALLY agree about the diner scene in "When Harry Met Sally..."
Then there's also the scene when they're uncomfortably (and silently) eating salad in a restaurant after they sleep together.
Or the scene in "Home for the Holidays" ... well, practically every scene in that movie has some sort of food being eaten somewhere in it.
BTW - Have you ever had a sandwich like Ally Sheedy made in "Breakfast Club"?? They're not half bad. Okay, so I haven't really had one either, but I LOVE putting potato chips on my bologna sandwiches ... or my tuna sandwiches.
LOL - I knew I would think of more ... how about the scene in "Beetlejuice" where they're entertaining guests in the parlor room, eating some sort of seafood dish, and they break out into "Day-O"!

speaking of "Analyze That"...what about when Billy Crystal is druink or drugged at the restaurant and slurring his words and making a fool of himself---that was hysterical to me!

I have a severe sensitivity to the sights and sounds of eating in movies. I HATE it.
It's almost always done as a substitute for acting. It's to show how "real" the characters are.
If you play a cop, of course, you must take a huge bite out of a sandwich and THEN say your line. You must also take a big swig of your drink with a mouthful of food. At the same time? WHO but a tv character does these things?
My biggest pet peeve is when they filmmaker wants to show that people are digging in and working overtime: without a doubt, you must show them eating Chinese food. NOBODY eats Chinese food out of the carton. NOBODY. (Nobody but cliche movie actors being directed by ahole morons.)
I'm not paying 10 dollars to watch an actor chew and gulp onscreen.
I love the Sopranos, but if I have to look at that fat fuk Tony Soprano eat and then talk through his nose, I'll hang myself.

I personally love the scene at Jackrabbit Slim's in "Pulp Fiction" though the main reason is because I love everything they order. Travolta orders a steak and vanilla coke and Uma orders a burger and vanilla shake. And actually later in the movie Bruce Willis' girlfriend wants blueberry pancakes and blueberry pie. YUM!!! Also Samuel L Jackson's eating the burger and sipping the soda was extremely funny as was Harvey Keitel acknowledging how good the coffee was. Great proof of how less is more.

Edward Scissorhands -- Edward eating all the ambrosia salad and other foods the neighbors were feeding him. Why did she use a huge lump of ambrosia salad???
Friends are like Shake 'n' Bake...the ones that stick to you stay with you...then you eat them.

Again with the f**king chicken???
Add in the scene at the restaurant with the ice cream especially the way Steve Carell says "a la mode".
Going back in this thread (I hadn't read it in a while) I have definitely noticed the cliche of Chinese out of the container. I have a theory to that. In any eating scene, continuity is extremely difficult so they probably went with the easiest thing they could think of where you can't see the place the food is coming from.
