1) The Day The Earth Stood Still. The first "flyling saucer" film that portrayed aliens as peaceful and benevolent beings. 2) War of the Worlds. Steven Speilberg's version, NOT. 3) Forbidden Planet. The forefather of virtually everything we see today in the genre today. 4) 2001: A Space Odyssey. Kubrick's groundbreaking gift to movie making, a masterpiece that took the entire genre to the next level. 5) Star Wars. It was more of a "space opera," but it changed the entire world with its visuals, characters, and creative genius.

Have you ever noticed that whenever they try to re-make a classic sci fi or horror film, they always fail?
In spite of color film, in spite of CGI technology, in spite of the outrageous budget and the Hollywood hype, they never quite equal the original, must less surpass it.
