Hi everybody, I'm a freelance actor in Europe. Now I've been contacted to submit myself for an American casting.
I've never done a US production/casting before and I'd like some advice for headshot submissions. I have the following questions:
- How many photo's do i submit? - Do i have to add a total (bodyshot) for submission?. - Do i add my show reel when submitting?.
Attached are a few photo's, i'd like to know if they are up to US standards and if i should use them. For the casting they are looking for an immortal/vampire type.
Your help is appreciated, thank you.
ps: the photo's are watermarked.

Will you be submitting via email? If so, attach a few if you like. Three at the most.
You don't have to send a full body shot but a shot that at least shows some of your body is preferable so they have an idea of your physicality.
Yes, these shots are decent enough. Not awesome but suitable for an "immortal/vampire" type. They are professional at least. I would not use the last one too much as it is more fashion driven and better for modeling BUT I like it for this particular submission. I could see you as a vampire!!!
Yes, include your reel! Always.
Hope that helps.

First off, 99.99 % of all American actors, by profession, are freelance. You look too healthy in your photos to be immortal, by the way. More like an 80's actor from the John Hughes movies. Study the Twightlight series promo shots then re-take your headshots. If you want immortal, is all I'm saying. Good luck in your submissions.

Thanks for your feedback. You said they aren't awesome, maybe you could elaborate on that a bit more?.
For instance, would my imdb photo's be more appropriate??
offtopic: how come i can't edit my own posts?.

you only have 30 minutes from the time of posting to edit, you can't go back after 30 minutes to edit. kinda sucks, i know. we used tobe able to, but when the board reopened earlier this year, we lost that right. oh well...

The first one too much of your body is visible and the hands in it are very distracting. Additionally, when it gets posted online as a thumbnail for submission, it will make your face smaller as so much body is in the shot. You want a shot that highlights your face well so it "pops" as a thumbnail. Remember, casting have 100's of submission for any one part and you want the shot that stands out at one glance. I am also not wild about your expression. You look bored and the way you are hunched over also reflects that. Posture and how you carry yourself as an actor are very important.
The second shot, again the expression. It doesn't wow me, frankly and it's too tightly cropped so casting would have no idea of your body type. Your smile looks forced too.
The third one is a white shirt on a white backdrop- a pet peeve of mine as it makes people blend in rather than standing out. Again, the expression. You look disinterested.
Lastly, the fourth one is not a headshot- it is a fashion shot BUT you look great!!!
Basically, you need shots that really focus on the eyes and make them "speak" from the page. There needs to be intensity or energy on the face, something in the eyes that captures the viewer's attention and makes them want to know more about the person.
I hope this helps as you do have a distinctive look and I could see you booking work- you just need shots that pop a little more. Like I said though, these are not awful and they certainly are professional at least so they would never make you look bad or hurt you which is a plus.

The photos look funny the way they are displayed here. I'm not sure if it's the way they are displayed in the viewer or what but they look like they were not retouched well...
