You did not answer the question. Did you give scooper1221 a discount if she posted good things on this message board? Home contractors do it all the time. Discount if you put their sign on your lawn. Nothing wrong with it. However, you should acknowledge it if true.

This was my response to "CSilvera," labview, who accused a recent customer of posting my photos because I TOLD her to. She had read about me on the forum and had chosen me to photograph her son (See: "Brian's headshots done by Robert Kim," on this same board). 'CSilvera's' allegation gave me an excellent idea. If my clients and I are to be subjected to this kind of nonsense, I might as well invite my clients to share their experiences and new headshots on the board if they'd care to. Evidently, they do. But your direct question deserves a direct answer. IF YOU'LL NOTICE, ALL BACKSTAGE READERS RECEIVE A SIGNIFICANT DISCOUNT OFF MY USUAL SESSION FEE. HOWEVER, IF MY QUALITY AND SERVICE WAS BAD, NO AMOUNT OF MONEY WOULD BE SUFFICIENT FOR THEM TO POST MY PHOTOGRAPHS OR DISCUSS THEIR PERSONAL EXPERIENCES WITH US. And may I ask again -- did you make your same complaint to David Zaugh and Dennis Kwan Photography, or are you singling me out personally for this public inquisition? I don't question your interest, "labview," only your motives. “Whatever works.” www.robertkim.comSpecial Back Stage Discounts www.imdb.com/name/nm0453647/

I've never met robert or discussed any kind of photos with him, but I have seen his work from his site, chatted with him on here, and seen him in some of his film work. He is a legit photographer who probably doesn't need to send people in on a message board to post good things. Let's say theoretically that he did send someone in to say charming things about his work and it ended up being crap. You probably wouldn't hire me based on that no matter what anyone said. With any photographer just look at the photos. That's all that should matter, the end result, not the in between.

Unlike you who is very active on this message board and seem to virtually live here, I at most visit this message board once a day. I may for days not even visit. I respond to topics that are "interesting" to me. This topic was the one I saw at the top of the message board the day I visited. Therefore I responded. If I saw a topic about David Zaugh or Dennis Kwan at the top of the message board of similar nature, I would also have posted. You were just "lucky". The fact that you are getting defensive says a lot more about you than anything I could ever say. Whether you TOLD someone to post here or encourage is just a matter of semantic. I doubt you'd be so crude as to order someone to post on here. I personally find it distasteful that you would use your clients to act as paying shills on this message board. To my understanding, that is really not the point of this message board, ie for outright ads which these "testimonal" posts are. Whatever.

I did find it a bit weird, u know, to find unsolicited praises in a message forum of potential customers... not saying its wrong, just a bit weird.. makes me squint my eyes a little...

I visit at other message boards on varying topics on a more regular basis, and unsolicited posts raise more than a few eyebrows and is generally frowned upon by the board regulars. I find it especially laugable when people who post these testimonals get in a huff when challenged. If they insist on bringing attention to themselves and Robert Kim, then be prepared to deal with the consequences. That's the way the cookie crumbles to use a tired cliche.

I didn't realize that there would be negative "consequences" to pay if any of my customers "insist on bringing attention to themselves," simply by showing my work and recommending my services. Doesn't sound like a very fair trade-off to me. These people are actors like you. They post their headshots here because they want people to see my work and to share their experiences, just like everybody else. I don't think that they volunteered to participate only to be publicly horse whipped by you ("paying shills"?). If you want to slam me, bring it on. But your own fellow actors? Could it be that several individuals on this board harbor personal motives that have nothing whatsoever to do with my photography? Stay tuned. “Whatever works.” www.robertkim.comSpecial Back Stage Discounts www.imdb.com/name/nm0453647

Robert please dont take offence to this, because there is no doubt that your pictures are better, and judging by your website, your work is great.
But I thought I may as well chip in to this heated debate and point out that it is extremely difficult to compare these photos.
One is a mid-shot, B&W and her hair is short. The other is close up, colour, with longer hair..
The hair makes all the difference, as it makes her look different.. Nevertheless, I would have liked to see a different selection of photos from the other photographer with a closer photo, in colour.
The comparison reminded me of those weight loss shows where they have the "before and after" photos.. In the before photo the subject has no makeup and isn't smiling and is wearing unflattering clothes... In the 'after' they have a fake tan, loads of makeup, smiling and dressed in black or something! (but havent necessarily lost lots of weight)

No offense taken. I have seen those same 'before and after' shots the TV weight loss people always advertise, too -- the first shot with their skin pasty white and the model looking unhappy, their bellies artificially distended to look even fatter, etc. That's why 90% of the "Before & After" photos featured on my website were taken by professional photographers, with virtually all of LA and New York's top headshot photographers represented. The "before" photo Sandy posted was the best of the three she finally selected from her previous session. She was wearing a black Anne Klein suit and all of the photos were heavily retouched. The photographer provided his own professional hair and makeup artists for the shoot. Her hair was shorter then, but hair length wouldn't have had much effect on the final outcome of her first headshots. However, if you would like her first photographer's name and contact number, I would be more than happy to provide it for you. “Whatever works.” www.robertkim.comCheck out our all-new “Before & Afters”www.imdb.com/name/nm0453647/

Whatever.
To use a message board as a place to advertise is never good. It throws a questionable light on everybody who does it. I mean, who does this? Would anybody who went to a hairdresser go on a hairdresser forum, post images of oneself with an unfavorable "before" haircut and an "after" haircut? Actors have a good sense of what's real, and they will know what they think of such a thing.
